ABOUT THE EVENT
A powerful new work by Eric Whitacre and Charles Anthony Silvestri. The journey of a courtship, a family, and a life-changing diagnosis. After he lost his wife, Julie, to cancer in 2005, Tony and renowned American choral composer Eric Whitacre created The Sacred Veil, a 12-movement work for chorus, piano and cello.
“What if our departed loved ones are not truly gone, but closer than we think?” says Silvestri. “That veil between here and there is always very close, and we are not as separated as we often feel.”
The final movement, Child of Wonder, serves as a kind of benediction. The music is lovely and conveyed in language that is full with meaning. We invite you to exeprience the Oklahoma premiere of this profound and beautiful work. Featuring Canterbury Voices, Pianist David Hillis and Cellist Dr. Jonathan Ruck.

ABOUT THE COMPOSER
Grammy Award-winning composer and conductor, Eric Whitacre, is a graduate of The Juilliard School (New York), his works are programmed worldwide, and his ground-breaking Virtual Choirs have united well over 100,000 singers from more than 145 countries. Eric served as Artist in Residence with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and is currently Visiting Composer at Pembroke College, Cambridge University. He’s also an Ambassador for the Royal College of Music in London.
A long-term relationship with Universal/Decca Classics has produced several no.1 albums, and new works include Eternity in an Hour, receiving its premiere in 2024 at the BBC Proms in London’s Royal Albert Hall. In 2025, Murmur, commissioned by violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, will premiere at Carnegie Hall. Eric has also worked with legendary Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer, and British pop icons Laura Mvula, Imogen Heap and Annie Lennox.
Today’s work, The Sacred Veil, a profound meditation on love, life and loss, was premiered by the Los Angeles Master Chorale, conducted by the composer, and released on Signum Records. Read more at ericwhitacre.com
