All those going into 7th grade audition for Cantabile. 8th – 12th graders all audition for Cantabile and will be considered for Chorale if they complete the audition requirements listed below. The conductors of the choir conduct the audition/hearing. An intern may be present as well.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Prelude & Bel Canto Choirs:
Auditions for singers in 2nd through 6th grade are very kid friendly and do not require any advance preparation. The brief audition will consist of echoing short phrases to sing, singing some warm ups that will be taught in the room, listening for things that are the same and different, and maybe singing a known song like “Happy Birthday” or “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
Cantabile:
Those auditioning for Cantabile will be vocalized, and must also prepare to sing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” and perform a pitch memory exercise. Click here for Audition Elements.
Chorale:
Those auditioning for Chorale will be vocalized, and must also prepare one song from the list of Audition Elements. Singers will also be asked to perform a pitch memory exercise. Singers are welcome to sing their own song instead of one of the listed pieces. It should be an art song, aria, or classical music theatre piece. For example: If you performed a solo at District Solo and Ensemble Contest, that song would be appropriate for this audition. Click here for Audition Elements.
