Audition / Hearings (2025-2026)

Canterbury Youth Voices is a music education program consisting of 4 choirs for unchanged voices. Auditions begin in April and May, and a final day of audition will take place in August.

Depending on the choir, audition/hearings vary in times from 5-10 minutes. 2nd – 3rd graders will audition for Prelude, and 4th – 6th graders will audition for Bel Canto in the 2025-26 school year.

All those going into 7th grade audition for Cantabile. 8th – 12th graders all audition for Cantabile and will be considered for Chorale if they complete the audition requirements listed below. The conductors of the choir conduct the audition/hearing. An intern may be present as well.

Audition Requirements

Prelude:

Prelude is for singers in 2nd through 3rd grade in the Fall of 2025. Auditions are very kid friendly and do not require any advance preparation. The brief audition will consist of echoing short phrases to sing, singing some warm-ups that will be taught in the room, and listening for things that are the same and different. Singers must be accompanied by an adult. REHEARSALS: Prelude choir rehearses on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:00 PM at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music on the campus of Oklahoma City University.

Bel Canto:

For singers in 4th through 6th in the Fall of 2025. Auditions are very kid friendly and do not require any advance preparation. Cantabile:

All singers who will be in the 7th grade in the fall of 2025 will audition for Cantabile. Any singer going into the 8th – 12th grade can audition for Cantabile, Chorale, or both. Those auditioning for Cantabile (7-12 grade) are asked to prepare the song “America the Beautiful” as their audition. Chorale:

Those auditioning for Chorale (8-12) will be vocalized, and should also prepare a song of their choice. It should be an art song or aria. *For example: If you performed a solo at District Solo and Ensemble Contest, that song would be appropriate for this audition. *Singers need to bring a copy of their music for our accompanist. REHEARSALS: Chorale rehearses on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music on the campus of Oklahoma City University.

Placement (2025-26)

All audition results will be emailed. Singers may accept or decline their placement, and there is no financial obligation until you have officially enrolled. Everyone will be notified their results by email. Those who are accepted will receive acceptance and payment information in mid-July.
